Mother

My mother was eighty years old and she lived in California. Unaccountably, she insisted on attending a convention of old settlers of the Mississippi Valley, which was her hometown. Well, it is a long way and therefore no one supported her sudden decision. But her determination persuaded all and I went the meeting with her right away. She became young again full of excitement and eagerness, which surprised everyone a lot.

When we went to the b&b cavan pointed for this activity, it was the noon. The moment she reached there, she asked for Dr. Green from New York. Then she was told that he had gone three hours ago, before we arrived. From that time, I could see a great change in mother’s expression and then the whole body. It seemed that all the fire gone from her in a minute.

Mother asked to go home with deep depression. There she sat silently, thinking for days. One day after supper, she began to tell us her story. She fell in love with a young man at the age of eighteen. And they loved each other deeply and decided to get married. Some changes happened and the young man had to leave for the army. "It will not be a long time. I will give you a Tiffany Ring." Mother still remembered the words clearly, just like printed in her mind. She had never seen him again. Finally, she married my father with some pity in her heart.

Then she read the newspaper and saw his name. Though there were people with the same name, she also chose to go there with the last hope. That was her journey months ago. "It is only three hours", she sighed and there was a look filled with sadness and something else that is hard to tell.

She has kept the pathetic burden in her heart for nearly sixty years and no one knew that, even my father. A year later, her memory began to fail and she even tried to telephone one of her friends who had been dead for twenty years. Another three years later, mother left us for ever. She went to the paradise for her Tiffany Ring.

My mother was eighty years old and lived in California.
